2016 Events Review!

ANOTHER GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM TRAX…

  • Over 4,500 cars on display at TRAX 2016
  • Attended by crowd of over 16,000
  • Live demos from British Drift Championship a big draw on the day

Britain’s biggest and best performance car show was true to form once again last weekend, with over 16,000 visitors and 4,500 cars turning up at Silverstone for the iconic event.

TRAX – this year sponsored by Deranged, Direnza, K-Sport, BC Racing and Hardrace – is the UK’s largest celebration of performance cars and car culture, and was livelier than ever for 2016, with a number of key attractions to draw the crowds.

Chief among these were the stars of the British Drift Championship, who put on live demo displays throughout the day. The tyre-smoking sideways action is always a thrill to watch, and this year the BDC drivers were as extrovert as ever with their opposite-lock showcase.

Public track time, sponsored by Toyo Tires, was also a massive draw, with members of the public allowed to take their own cherished performance cars out for hot laps at the iconic home of British motorsport.

Event director Phil Weeden said: “TRAX is always a fabulous, well-supported event and this year was the best one yet, with a record turnout of cars and plenty of new features to entertain the fans. We can’t wait to be back in 2017 with TRAX and our other performance car events.”

Among those events is The Fast Car Festival, which took place for the first time in 2016, and was marked by a special exhibition at TRAX, featuring a Lamborghini Diablo, the only TVR Sagaris RT in existence and iconic rally cars including a Lancia Fulvia HF and Ford Sierra Cosworth. The Fast Car Festival attracted over 6,000 guests in its first ever year and the organisers were proud to announce at TRAX that it will return to the same venue (Donington Park) on the weekend of July 1st and 2nd, 2017.

Other highlights at TRAX were, of course, the display cars themselves, with a special turn out of over 100 vehicles for the Car Culture collection, sponsored by Vibe Audio.

Other static display highlights included the show and shine, won by Gaz Smith with his BMW E36, and the club displays, with the Best Club Stand award for 2016 going to Luxe Mini. Another notable winner on the day was Dan Gannon, who took away the Wheel Whores Best Wheels Award for the magnesium BBS split racing rims fitted to his classic Porsche 911 RSR!

TRAX has grown to become one of Silverstone’s biggest events and one of its largest public track days, after starting out as a club meeting over 20 years ago.
